Trolling
We nabbed another troll!
This one was pretty easy. We followed directions to it via Google Maps and were surprised to find it was just a couple of miles up the road from the hike we did at the aforementioned Poo Poo Point.
There’s ample parking at a little city park, then Jakob Two Trees is just a short walk up a nice, paved trail that apparently goes on for miles.
If you like these trolls, Tacoma has exciting news. A dozen new
trolls will be on display at our zoo in Point Defiance and at the wildlife park
near Eatonville. These are traveling trolls. They will only be there October
through January. Pierce County will be the first place to host them. They are
smaller than the other trolls but will still average around eight feet tall. Read
more about them at the very long link at the end of this blog post.
Post-troll visit, we walked around Issaquah. It is a beautiful little town just outside of Seattle, but in big woods and surrounded by small mountains. It reminded me of the Smoky Mountains, or certain parts of Colorado, but with considerably more Asian restaurants than either,
What Issaquah doesn’t have are BBQ grills in its park, nor
does it permit you to bring your own, which we did. So post-troll and town tour
we moved just a couple miles over to Lake Sammamish State Park.
This park feels more like a big city park than what I think of as a state park, but every state does their parks a little differently. It has a big lake, and ample picnic areas that do allow grilling, even providing the grills, which I used so I didn’t have to put a hot
grill in our truck later. It was a sunny, warm day, and the park was very busy, but it is so big it wasn’t at all crowded. They rent all sizes of kayaks there, and stand-up paddleboards as well as some other pedal-powered floating contraptions. We just stuck with cooking at eating, but I hope to go back there at try the waters.
