Up In the Air

When I graduated from college, I applied for one job and got it. Later, when Ann and I got married and we moved to Saint Joseph, I applied to two jobs, were offered both, and picked the best one. When she was promoted to Hannibal, I applied for one job and got it. A competitor tried to hire me away from that job, and instead of leaving, I took a promotion.

When Ann was promoted to Columbia, I applied for two jobs and was offered both. I took the wrong one, but when I left several months later the other one was filled, so I took two half-time jobs, and within a year one of those half-time jobs became full-time. I stayed in that job for about 25 years.

Needless to say, when we embarked on a plan for Ann to leave her job and take a new one in places unknown, I had confidence bordering on hubris. But job hunting this time around has gone differently than my previous experiences. I mentioned earlier about being offered the job from the SBA that started immediately right when we moved, but I wanted to finish out the year with the Missouri Conference, so I passed. I hadn’t heard from them since, so I thought that ship had sailed. But on May 28, I was asked if I could come to a training on June 7. Then on May 29, they bumped that back to June 14. I appreciated that, because the time coincided with the weekend we were moving.

Hence the period of absence in the blog (that other job taking up my time), followed by a whole bunch
of blog posts.

The new job should be pretty compatible with blogging, as I don’t have anyone else to talk to in the evening. I’ve traded living out of a tightly packed F-150 in a small but cute and fully furnished house to living out of a carry-on and a personal item in a hotel room. I’ve got one more full day in California, then I’m off to Arizona.
